Orbic Batfish (Platax orbicularis)

Product Description
Origin: Indian and Pacific Ocean (22 in.)
This animal is NOT reef safe and should only be cared for by experienced aquarists. Orbiculate Batfish, Platax orbicularis, is an omnivore commonly found in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. It is often found eating a mix of algae, Jellyfish and small animals. Batfish are well known for their unique shape, being taller than they are long. This creates a special requirement for housing these fish. As they grow taller they will require a "tall" aquarium with plenty of open space to swim around. Another recommendation for housing Batfish is to only provide peaceful tank mates. Aggressive tank mates may be attracted to nip at the long fins of the batfish.
Minimum Aquarium Length/Size: 200 Gallon

Note: Batfish require a lot of swimming room. As they grow older and taller a long and "tall" aquarium will suit them best. Because their fins are long and ornate, batfish should not be housed with "fin-nippers" such as damsels, puffers or triggers.
**Note** Due to their sensitive nature, this fish is not covered by our livestock guarantee.
