Cerith Snail (Cerithium litteratum)

Cerith snails are good herbivores to include in the reef tank. They remain very small and will not disturb any of the landscaping. They are sometimes included as a hitchhiker on live rock. The are not effective against hair algae, but may help with diatoms and cyanobacteria and add to the diversity of the cleanup crew when used with other types of snails.

Cerith Snails will often bury themselves in the sand, which will help maintain adequate oxygen levels in the substrate. Like all snails, this species is intolerant of extreme nitrate levels and cannot live in tanks that have had copper-based medications dispensed. _____________________________________________________________________________________
