Rquires bright light for its host anemone. This species is a filter feeder that captures suspended organic particules with its specially modified appendages. Will also take bits of meaty foods as well.

In the aquarium, MUST have host to survive. It may attempt to defend its territory from clownfish that try to establish themselves among the anemone, although the clownfish generally wins. The difference between the Ohshimal and the Maculatus is that the purple or brown spots on the back of the Ohsimal are larger than those of the Maculatus. _____________________________________________________________________________________
